Don't know what to do.... what to think...

Somebody supporting another with cocaine addiction
My partner is addicted to Cocaine. The trigger for him to start using it more frequently and get addicted was due to his mother passing away...He wants  to stop, and he gave the first step to get help.... But it brokes my heart seeing him at home everydays doing nothing.... he doesn't have a job, I think he doesn't have any objectives in life to fight for.... At the moment it's me working, paying the bills, and getting this family up and running.... and I am knackered.... Don't know what else to do to help him to have joy in his life again....

Hi there - you’re clearly carrying so much, so not surprised you are exhausted.

It’s a positive step though that he wants to stop - what kind of things is he doing to help (any groups? ).  My son is now joining zoom calls on SMART Recovery and watching/listening to podcasts/videos on recovery after two previous relapses I think/hope he’s learned he has to work at his recovery elsewhere he will lapse/relapse)…

I guess though here he is also dealing with grief and depression, so finding motivation can be incredibly hard - I get that.  Is he getting any bereavement support? x

Re him getting back to working- maybe starting small could help — something like low-pressure volunteering, just once a week. It might give him a bit of structure and purpose without the pressure of a job.  (I fully realise he needs to be in paid work to ease pressure on you but just wondering if it’s too big a leap right now - maybe part time. I do think purpose is so so important for self esteem and pride)

Take care of yourself xx
