Supporting someone with ketamine addiction

When ketamine takes over

From the outside, ketamine looks mild, a party drug young people experiment with at festivals. From the inside, watching a daily user, it doesn’t look mild at all. The bathroom trips multiply, the cramps get rebranded as kidney infections, the dose keeps climbing, and they slip out of conversations and don’t come back.

The medical system doesn’t help much either. Urology treats the bladder pain without ever naming the cause, and mental health services and substance services don’t speak to each other, so a lot of people fall down the gap between them. The trap is cruel: the bladder hurts, so they take more ketamine to numb it.

What you’ll find here

The posts below are written by people supporting a loved one through ketamine addiction, including the physical complications it brings, the mental fog, and the difficulty of getting healthcare professionals to take it seriously. Some are early in this, some have been living with it for years. Some are looking for advice, some are simply trying to be heard by someone who already knows what they’re talking about.

This is a space for honesty, not advice from strangers.
