Home detox

Somebody supporting another with alcohol addiction
Hello, my AH sister is going through a community detox on Monday, she’s had 3 detox’s previously over the years at different rehabs up and down the country but never a community one. The nurse said she must be monitored 24/7 so me and dad will be splitting the 4 day detox and having her stay at our houses 2 days each to monitor her. Has anyone supported a loved one through a community detox? I have no idea what to expect, will she be sleepy? Agitated? Restless? She’s made mine and dads life a chaotic misery for years so we are both hoping she will not relapse again but she has severe mental illness, complex PTSD and untreated ADHD  and uses alcohol as a crutch.

I hope you are ok
We are doing our best for our adult daughter too but the cheating and lying hasn’t gone. It’s tearing us apart, she has so much support but abuses all our goodwill and trust. I really want to stay positive but community detox hasn’t worked for us or her 😭I wish there was more positive energy I could share. Hold on you are not on your own x

Community detox is just a cheaper way of doing this. It’s not a good idea. You need nerves of steel and a ruthless attitude. Hard when you love someone. My friend recently completed detox for the thiird time. No success before. But this time after the 2 weeks in stay, he went for another 8 weeks to all the classes, activities etc. he’s now sober for 94 days.  He’s lovely though. Had had to cut off ties with friends including me. It can be a terribly boring life being sober which is so many people relapse. I miss him but I’ll keep out of his way for his sake.  Good luck xx
