Distraught yet again

Somebody supporting another with alcohol addiction
My son detoxed and started a new job 4 weeks ago , a job he loved and told us he was determined to keep  and sort his life out, pay off his debt and start saving again etc !!  Ever started going to AA. All  going really well then started drinking on Friday last week during work time and of course lost the job yesterday!!
I am at my wits end and do  believe that if someone is an alcoholic no amount of promises or good intentions will ever change them. He knows the consequences but the draw of alcohol is always too strong. I am so angry , the promises he made to my face !!( thankfully he does not live with me ) I am finished ranting but would appreciate any help in trying to live my live without being constantly drawn into his . Thank you💕

Really sorry to hear that, so difficult , change never seems to last, you need to look after yourself

Thank you Penny
I can’t stop crying this evening as I know what is  lying  ahead for me. I love him more than life it’s self and would give up my life if he could be sober and happy.  Unfortunately that is not an option but 15  years of this emotional roller coaster is enough to destroy the strongest of us 💕

Hello, I can relate to the horror of seeing yet another relapse from the loved one. It’s gut wrenching, heartbreaking and beyond frustrating. My sister has very recently finished detox number 4 from alcohol two weeks ago.

Hi
I totally understand how yr feeling. My son managed to get himself off ketamine by replacing it with alcohol.  He is drinking 10 pack of cider and bottle of vodka a night. He hid it so well we employed him in the family business.  The going to bed early because he was tired and wanted to be fresh for work were lies because he was passed out drunk. Ive found numerous empty bottles and cans hidden in his room. He lies about everything. I just gone into his room at 7pm tonight and hes passed out on his bed with empty large bottle of vodka and empty cider cans on the floor.
He will be unbearable tomorrow in work and its embarrassing for us. He is due to sign a rental agreement on an apartment this week, I dont think he will cope on his own but I hve enough now. Hes actually making me ill and my mental health is really suffering. I have tired everything for him but he just doesn't care.  Unfortunately I have to accept that he has chosen this life for himself and only he can help himself now. It will be a miracle if he lasts 3 months in apartment before he gets evicted but i will not be allowing him to come home unless hes clean. I feel while hes living with me im enabling his addictions and destroying myself.
I love him so much but Its killing me..

Hi Mary
How awful that you are having to live like this … you deserve better, we all deserve better !!!
Every word you say is my life too but thankfully he does not live with me. You are absolutely right you don’t want him living with you anymore
. No matter what I do for my son he continues to lie constantly about drinking. This time he can’t lie as he was sacked for drinking.. but it is still my fault … I like you am sick to death of this behaviour and I refuse to be a victim of his awful decisions so have blocked all contact. As I live 100 miles from him I don’t need to see what he is doing to himself, his choices are not mine nor is he now my responsibility as he is an adult
The problem is we love them to the detriment of our happiness but I now feel I need to have no contact for my wellbeing and mental health .
I really hope you too can be strong ( it’s not easy) and you can at least have peace at home💕

Good morning
Thank you xx
The battle has already started this morning,  hes refusing to get up for work after having a week off. I am already upset now and its not even 8am.  I do not recognise the horrible person he has turned into.
Hopefully hes moving out in a couple of weeks and I can rebuild my life and he can be wholly responsible for all his decisions and consequences.
Take care xx

Good morning Mary
Please think about yourself for a change not him !!!
He has to live with his awful decisions… you don't ..
As he is adult you should not be expected to pick up the pieces of the life he chooses. We all have choices make yours for YOU , I know from personal experience that no matter what you say or do will not make any difference, he will still do what he wants regardless of how you feel. Please look after yourself and do what is right for you not him . He may come to his senses at some point but in the meantime try and do things that make you happy 💕
