After rehab

Somebody supporting another with ketamine addiction
Hi
My daughter is currently in rehab & doing really well , she has 2 weeks left until she comes home , she has her own home and I’m worried I will be constantly checking up on her and how to give her the space she probably needs anyone else been through this ?

Firstly, congratulations to both you and your daughter for making it to this point.

My mum was in and out of rehab several times when I was younger, and I eventually settled on treating her almost like any other member of the family (without excess checking) each time she got out. I felt like treating her with too much caution and concern created a weird pressure on her to be perfect when she couldn’t be, which actually undermined the staying sober objective.

I also found it very helpful to use that period of sober clarity that comes with a stint in rehab to say all the things that got misinterpreted or misunderstood by her when she was drinking. Mainly that she was loved, that we were proud of her for being sober, and that we’d always be ready to welcome her back in to the family unit when she was ready to stop for good.

I appreciate alcohol and Ketamine are probably quite different, but hopefully this is of some help. Best of luck!
