Hello all, new to this group

Somebody supporting another with alcohol addiction
What a journey our family have been on with my son, alcohol use.
Just don't know where start really, most painful thing is he continually tries to make trouble in the family,  dividing us all. We try so hard not to have this happen but not always easy to do.
He said he has stop drinking in last few weeks after a very bad few days of drinking, but I have no one of really knowing as he has said this so many times before.
Just wanted to be around people that understand

We are new to the group as well. Our son relies on drink to function he says. Goes off on binges and runs up debts. Just a circle we cannot break. We talk to him, support him but it just comes around time and time again. We are now searching for answers as it’s no us but him that is struggling. His problem is our problem unfortunately. Sounds like you’re in a similar situation with the family being divided. Hope things ease for you and you get a light at the end of the tunnel

Hi, we are in a very similar position with our son. He is 28, uses alcohol and cocaine, plus prescription meds.
He fallen off the wagon time and time again and everytime we lick him up. Take him home and try to sort him out!!! The past year has been horrendous,  he's ended up in ICU, with serotonin syndrome,  was on a ventilation for a week and still he keeps on drinking and taking drugs. He has mental health issues as well.  Which are only made worse but the addiction.  We are at the end of our rope, I'm exhausted both physically and mentally, my husband hides it well but he's wracked with guilt.
Awful situation,  we're in n Ireland where they don't recognise dual diagnosis.  Its either the addiction team or the mental health team.
We are all struggling at the moment.  I really feel your pain 😢

Our son is 31 and we can relate to what you have said, thanks for the chat, it’s a lonely life sometimes. The answers are not easy and what does happen seems to take ages for anything good but it always seems to be set on negativity.. I just get a sinking feeling in my stomach when the lies and deception starts. The drinking is just constant, even when he complains of stomach ache with so much cider.
