Somebody supporting another with alcohol and cocaine addictions
Hi all
I takevit that the reason why we are all here is because we have something in common.  Im no different. For over a years I've watched my son spiraling with his alchol use. Over the years I've tried to implement support for him, talking therapies friends family. Back then he was in denial, saying he can manage it, and he hasn't got a problem. Most recently the mother of his 3 year old daughter said she believes he is taking drugs....I never ever thought that I would see my intelligent so even consider taking drugs. We found empty bags of cocane hidden in his room. Ashamed and embarrassed he admitted to taking it, but says, its because he has been stressed and struggling with anxiety. Ive known for a while that he is depressed, but he will deny it. Since returning from university 5 years ago he has spiralled He lies all the time regarding his alcohol intake. He has a full time job, and is very professional, but this is really taking a toil on me. Im struggling and it gives me anxiety stopping me in doing my own job....my husband doesn't get involved, and finds it difficult to be emotionally attached. So im alone

It’s so so difficult isn’t it 😢 I felt the same re our own son - never ever thought he would end up with an addiction (his was also cocaine, and binge drinking alcohol).

Does your son want to get help for the addiction and his mental health?  I have found its only when they are at that point of wanting to sort it & hating the struggle do things start to change x Much more so than when I was doing all the legwork on getting him help.

Big hugs - and hope you feel less alone - as you are right we are all here as we are or have experienced the same god awful journeys 😞

x

Thanks for your reply. I really appreciate you reaching out.
My son has good days and bad....today is a good day, Monday wasn't. Im constantly on tender hooks wondering what he will be like when I come in from work. Its hard trying to navigate work, marriage and social life with this. Infact I have no social.
Just lonely x
