How To help

Somebody supporting another with alcohol addiction
My son has just reached a rock bottom in alcoholism.  Having been verbally abusive and threatening self harm to his ex girlfriend she reported it to work and he has been fired. He does accept he has to give up alcohol but I am so frightened.  He had time out here and a month off work before Christmas but it has all hit again recently.  I am 19 years in recovery,  have taken him to aa but "god" put him off but he says he must give up and will try again. Lives in Ireland me in UK. Scared he will self harm or die.

Somebody supporting another with alcohol, cannabis, and prescription opiods addictions
I feel for you as my son has been abusing alcohol and cannabis/ weed for 20 plus years. It's affected myself, his older brother and two beautiful young daughters that hate to be around him as they are wary and scared as they have seen the worst side of him. But, of course none of it is his fault, it's everything but. Today he called me a daft stupid cow! That's because I said something he didn't want to hear. I'd only unblocked him the other day as I feel guilty for doing so but at my age and the amount of years I've tried to help him I'm done. I can honestly say I can't take anymore. I'm so scared for him but he doesn't want to hear anything I or his brother has to say. His dad is just not interested in him whatsoever as he has a new family now 🙄

I completely understand, I block my son but as he lives alone I then worry in case he dies alone !! One endless nightmare.
I need to hear from him but when I do and he is drunk and abusive I wish I had not contacted him .
When will it end !!

Hi my heart goes out to you. I also have an alcoholic son 40!( will not admit it ). He worked really hard to become a lawyer and had an amazing job. Had a relationship breakup and started drinking heavily. He has now just lost his 3rd job and most likely his career. He was working at home and drinking so was sacked .. now 3 times . Can’t get another job as when references are taken up they don’t want him . Mental health issues compounded by alcohol. It is a nightmare for me my heart is broken for my beautiful boy who now drinks all night sleeps all day.  lies all the  time , has lost all his friends and savings has run out. Next stop is losing his flat.  I a struggling just to get out of bed each day . I feel constantly sick with worry . Sadly we are all in the same boat and sinking slowly. X
