This nightmare Never ends

Somebody supporting another with alcohol addiction
Another broken promise . I have had to block my son again drunk and abusive, Did not show up for job interview but its all my fault !! so many promises, no more drinking or lies and he would get help !! Why do I believe him ? Probably because I want this so badly and when I have hope I can get through that day.
I am broken , when I sleep I have terrible dreams about how he is found dead and how I have let him down !!
I go to bed hoping I won’t wake up as this pain is unbearable .
I am reading a book recommend by someone on this site called  Grieving a child that is still alive by Stephen L Randell Really hard reading but he speaks to everyone of us in this group from his own experience of what we are going through.💕

I guess you believe him because ultimately you just want him to be happy and settled in himself and understandably, you want this recurring cycle to stop 😟
I can relate to not wanting to wake up to the ever living nightmare, but I hope you know that his decisions are solely his, and when they go wrong they are still his, absolutely not your fault.
I’m sorry to hear about those awful dreams you’re having, they sound horrendous. Of course, you’ll worry, but worry won’t help unfortunately, looking after yourself as best you can, will 💛
Just an idea, but when you unblock him, could you end the call when he starts getting abusive telling him you’ll talk when he’s calmed down, and ignore nasty texts ,repeat when needed, so he knows your not willing to engage when he speaks to you like that.

Thanks for the mention of the book, I’ve not heard of it before, but will definitely look it up x

Thank you for your reply . The book has really helped me accept what you also said all adults are responsible for their own actions and must accept the consequences. Very hard to remember this in the early hours of the morning when sleep won’t come and your mind goes to dark places .
I will try and think about your advice. Thank you 💕

I find my brain goes in to overdrive at night, overthinking all sorts of scenarios! I reckon it’s just a pattern I’ve got so used of now, possibly the same for you.
I’ve now started practicing not allowing ‘heavy’ thoughts to creep in at night, as It’s detrimental and won’t achieve anything good. Slowly but surely my sleep pattern is less chaotic.
I truly do hope you can start getting some solace, clarity and peaceful nights sleep soon 💛

Oh my gosh felt like I'd written this. It feels like it will never end. We have to protect ourselves easier said than done.  The dreams the calls late at night with another story. You are not alone and I feel joining this group has really helped me.
